ZAK'S BACK - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH PORN STAR ZAK SPEARS - from Torso magazine May 2001 edition

Porn star Zak Spears, best known as one of the few fuzzy-bodied guys in the skin biz, recently returned to the industry after a six-year hiatus with Men of Odyssey’s hot new release, The Journey Back.  Torso recently spoke to Zak about his career and why he decided to start making blue movies again. 

Torso:  You made a lot of films from 1993 to 1995 and then you took a long break.  Why did you take such a long hiatus from adult films?  And what prompted your comeback?

Zak:  When I made the decision to leave adult films, I felt I had accomplished everything I had set out to do.  I wanted to go out on top, no pun intended.  As far as my return to videos goes, I missed the industry and I missed the fans.  I also received an offer from Men of Odyssey that I couldn’t refuse.

Torso:  Why did you get into the adult film business in the first place?

Zak:  I started watching gay porn at age 18.  Those [porn stars] were the men that I wanted to look like.  They were good-looking, sexy and had everything that I desired.  I wanted to become them.

Torso:  Do you prefer top or bottom roles, or both?

Zak:  I am 100% versatile.  I don’t have a preference one way or the other.  It depends on the scene and who I am with.

Torso:  You’ve said before in interviews that you always wanted to do porn.  Who is your all-time favorite male porn star, and why?

Zak:  Race Jensen, Rex Chandler and Mike Henson are a few of my favorites.  I also loved watching Chad Douglas.  Each of these guys has physical attributes that I prefer in men.

Torso:  Are you surprised by the number of fans that you have?

Zak:  I am actually shocked and humbled by the number of fans that I have.  I still continue to get many letters, packages and e-mails from people who appreciate the work I have done.  Each of my fans really means a lot to me because I never really considered myself a “porn star”.

Torso:  What is it like working with Chi Chi LaRue as a director, and why do you think Chi Chi has become one of the leading gay-porn directors?

Zak:  I have known Chi Chi for many years and we really have a good time when we get together.  The only regret that I have is that, due to our busy schedules, we don’t get together often enough.  I truly believe that Chi Chi is a great director, because he is really in tune with what people want and knows how to deliver.

Torso:  Which film that you have made is your favorite?

Zak:  The Solicitor is my favorite film because I really love working with Jim Steel and think he is one of the most talented people in this industry.

Torso:  How long do you plan on making adult films?

Zak:  We start filming my next film with Men of Odyssey, The Joint, in late spring, and they have the option for a third film.  Nothing beyond that has been decided.

Torso:  What are your upcoming plans for 2001?  Are you planning any special films or personal appearances?

Zak:  I enjoy making personal appearances because it gives me an opportunity to associate both with the fans and people in the industry that I love.  No firms dates have been scheduled at this time, other that the Gay VN 2001 awards in March.
