This is more in response to an earlier thread which extolled the virtues of Zak Spears saying he won't work with "gay for pay" stars.  This is great from someone who is basically retired.   In an earlier post Zak says Bo Garrett would "be a possibility".  Bo is "gay for pay" according to everything I've read and seen from him.  He considers himself straight and has a girlfriend.  Then I ask to look Zak's career and take a look at how many "gay for pay" co-stars he has had.  It's nice to take a stand when you are not in the business anymore, but for those who make their living off it, they really don't care if he refuses to work with the straight guys.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion, and no mud slinging.  Yes, in the past I have worked with “gay for pay” models - when I didn’t have a choice.  We’ll see who I decide to work with in a couple of months, then you and I can have this conversation again.  Everything that I have been told about Bo Garrett is that he’s gay.  The persona he depicts to the public states he’s straight, so go with your fantasy.  No dictating here, okay?   It is also easy to sit here dictating who I will and will not work with and for that matter who I will and won’t work for.  Maybe you could make some suggestions as to whom you would like to see in a scene with me and what situation you’d like to see it in.

Thank you for the compliment.  Yes I do have a license as a building tradesman, also a license in diesel and auto mechanics.  I very much enjoy working with my hands and had plenty of time to study when I was in my teens and twenties.  As for if I have any ambitions outside of porn?  I haven’t been in the business for almost 5 years.  I have since then went back to school and taken many classes and have become a Personal Fitness Trainer, which I enjoy very much.   Porn is not forever, one of the things I’m always preaching to my friends is have fun with it but be prepared for the future.  That's why I did two technical degrees.  I also got out of the business on my own accord, before the studios made the decision for me, knowing full well that I would be back in a few years - that’s what’s happening now.  To your 2nd question, I have never been embarrassed by anything I’ve done in my life, everything in life is a learning process and the sooner people realize this, the sooner they will be a lot happier.  There are no wrong turns, no wrong decisions.  Just lessons to be learned.  I live in the very middle of West Hollywood, I haven’t been in a bar in 5 years, I keep a pretty quiet life, I don’t indulge in drugs or circuit parties.  The only time you'd see me is when I’m walking the dogs or running amends and usually not in WEHO.   So no, anyone who has seen me around has always been very sweet and respectful.

Hi Zak. I hope you're able to shed some light on an issue that's bothering me.  I've posted a thread on another forum about why black men are so seldomly seen in porn vids and NO ONE has bothered to take up the discussion.  So maybe you can say something on this line.  Have you ever been paired with a black dude?  Is there some bias or discrimination going on in porn circles?  I'm a White Canadian, so don't have a particular axe to grind, just kind of curious and concerned.

Fantastic question.  When I first started in the films I had a large knowledge of whom or what was in the industry as far as models go.   The directors and film companies of course have the final say in everything.   Chi Chi was nice enough to let me have some input (not all the time but some) in whom I would and wouldn’t work with, what position I was to be in or for that matter what companies I wouldn’t work with.  Falcon (at least when I was in) was known for keeping the almighty secret of whom one would be working with and what position you’d be put in.  At times, not many but some, I’d walk on the set after asking for a week about who am I to be paired up with.  Getting no reply, I was usually dismayed by their choice.  I felt I could have made a better scene and paired myself up better if I’d have a choice of whom I working with and what position I was to be in.  After all, I do know myself better than anyone.  There are certain sexual acts that some of the models may not be comfortable with.  I never had to do anything, as far as that goes, that I didn’t want to do.  Yes, I would love to direct and produce a line of films.  I would want more passion, romance (if someone doesn’t like the idea of these things in films, then fast forward like you usually do) and a new formula for making gay films.

I've been a fan of yours ever since I saw you in a jockstrap and face markings in a locker room scene. You always seem to be committed to what you are doing, and enjoying it as well.  Even in an otherwise forgetable flick called "Posing Strap" you exhibited your body in some of the sexiest 501's that I have ever seen.  Unfortunately, the camera never lingered long enough.  Did you ever make any stills of this sort?  I know that I am not alone in enjoying this sort of thing.

I'm sorry, but we didn't do many stills on that video (Posing Strap).  I doubt very much that I will be doing any more pics in 501's soon, due to the fact that they don't fit my legs any more.

I've enjoyed reading your posts.   You're quite articulate, informative, and witty.  Thanks for displaying that part of your personality.  I've never had the pleasure of seeing you on screen; however, I will be renting some of your films.  I went to rent one a couple of weeks ago, and there were none available!  Damn!  However, I DO have several of your pictures from online, and man... you SIZZLE!!  It's great to see a masculine GAY man who really enjoys his work (or, in your case, I'd say "enjoys his play"!!).   I remember years ago someone once said of the immortal Bruno, "He's what makes being gay worthwhile!"  I believe YOU are the 90's version of Bruno: unwaveringly masculine, sexual, and just plain ole' HOT!  With all that said, I was wondering what got you into porn in the first place?  You've got the looks of a porn stud, errr, star, but was it just for the money?  When you were younger, did you want to become a porn star?  I've always had a suspicion that porn stars are BORN, not made!  And when you're a super star, like you are, no amount of studio hype could possibly make you what you are today.  So... what prompted you to make the leap to stardom?  During your first film, what did you feel inside?  (Ummm, by "inside", I mean emotionally inside you!  NOT the OTHER "inside"...!!)

First, let me say that I never got into porn for the money.  Anyone with half a brain knows the video companies make out like a bandit when it comes to cash flow, not the models.  If this was a perfect world we (porn models) would get residuals (not).  Anyway, I got into it because I grew up idolizing the guys I saw on the screen, Race Jensen, Bill Henson, etc. and wanted to be like them, idolized, admired, handsome, getting it whenever they wanted (which is bullshit because I can tell from first hand experience that I get it less now than I did before I did films, people are very intimidated for some reason.)  Having an extreme sense of insecurity and self loathing can be a very lonely way for a kid to grow up when you're young. I came out at 12 to my family and 16 publicly in school.  My experience was that the rest of the kids had this death by association thing going on.  I felt they thought if they hung around me, that the other kids would think they were gay as well.  So I had at the most maybe 3-5 close friends and left the others to themselves.  Also I was very much a loner when I was in school. I was very thin and lanky, so I didn’t fit in with the jocks, I didn’t get into drugs, smoking or drinking so I didn't fit in with the burn outs, and hated academics but made it through school with an A - B average.  I also isolated myself a lot from the others.  I went into films thinking that it would make me more popular, instead I learned so much more about myself and others.  It catapulted me from a low maturity level to a high level. I’m probably the only one I know in or out of films that I can say that porn had a very positive effect on me as opposed to getting fucked up on drugs, partying or prostitution.  I could go on and on but that will get boring.  I feel that I was and am very lucky in the fact that I survived my younger days and porn and still being HIV negative.  I never thought that I would become a porn star, I went into porn to do the best I could do and trying to become as popular in the business as I could - I know that it sounds funny but I told Chi Chi the same thing.  Anyway, I hope I answered your question.

(RESPONSE BACK) Thanks so much for your answer. Again, an intelligent answer from an intelligent man!  I taught high school for 14 years before I left the profession for greener pastures in private industry.  I know that my gay students did have trouble in school.  I had one student who had the best "self-image" of any of my students.  He was "picked" on by the football players, but the soccer players really rallied around him.  He was a skinny, artistic boy whom I admired greatly.  I tried to lend him as much support as I could, but he really didn't need it.  I ran into him about 5 years after he graduated, and boy, what a difference 5 years made!  He was gorgeous!  Graduated from Cal, started his own business (interior design) and had turned his skinny body into a real spectacular body!  He worked out at my gym; he introduced me to his lover.  His life turned out well for him.  I am so glad that there are gay men like yourself whom boys like the one above can emulate.   Please, someday write a book about your life.  It could save a life.  The slant would NOT be your porn career (except as it affected your growth); rather, it would be on coming out so young.  Your life in school, your isolation, and your feelings about yourself.  Self-hate and self-doubt are the two biggest destroyers of our youth.  Thank you, again, for sharing your "growth".  I know my respect for you has risen even higher.  We need gay heros for our youth.  And keep up with your posts here.  You're reaping fans even before they've had a chance to see you in action!
