This goes back a few years, I know... I was just going through some old video tapes I have, and came across a segment of the "Phil Donahue" show  where you were one of the guests, as were a few other "erotic" stars.  I couldn't believe the one comment you made (and Donahue unfortunately made "big" of it - that "the intercourse scenes I was in in gay sex were all faked..." And then I went back and watched many of the videos I have with you in them... did I miss something?  Why that kind of comment?

To address your questions (they are a little vague, so I’ll answer them the best I can.)  In your post you said that I stated that the sex scenes were faked.  In porn, when they get the penetration scenes done and you see a long shot of both of the models engaged in intercourse going through the motions and you don’t see the penis actually inserted - that is exactly what they are doing, going through the motions. They don’t have to be inserted so they just bump and groan to butt. Just like most of the cum shots they do. They will film the actual cum shot then go back and film the guy going through the motions doing his (as I call it “his cum face or orgasm face") facial shots cumming.  So in conclusion, yes, YOU did miss something and that's why that comment.

I hope this question hasn't already been raised. I looked around & didn't seem to see anything about it, and you seem like a perfect porn star to address this to.  Without going into any actual detail (since it's none of our business), can you give us some idea what proportion of a reasonably successful porn actor's income might come from videos vs. photo shoots for magazine spreads?  I know this might be highly variable, depending on things like the studio a star is signed with, how "photogenic" vs. "performance" oriented, etc.  I'd imagine, say, Jake Tanner's income from photos probably was higher than the video stuff he did for Colt simply because he didn't do all that much video, but did quite a bit of photography. But since you're so widely photographed (and on the Web it'd seem like it's your main vocation), how does this play in, generally?   Thanks for your insights on this.

I usually do not talk about the finances of different models, because of what I would get or another model might get isn’t going to be the same for another. I can give you a vague description of how things might go. Depending on your look and popularity, you may get anywhere from $1000 to $2500 a scene (of course the $2500 was hearsay so I don't know if it was true.  You know how things get blown out of proportion in this business) and $400 and up for a photo layout depending on how reputable the magazine is.  I considered myself very fortunate as the money situation went. We never discuss money with the other models, so not as to hurt (or cause trouble) their feelings, or cause unnecessary grief for the directors, considering they basically decide who gets what.  I hope I was able to answer your question.

Zak, I have always loved your work, love to see a hot top do just as well as a hot bottom (my personal turn on in viewing gay porn is the "unexpected bottom" or should i say atypical).  Very little attention in gay porn appears to be aimed at nipple play. O.K., this is the last time I will attend this question.  First, everyone goes through changes in their life as long as they listen, keep their head out of their ass and pay attention to what's going on around them. The things that I said on Donahue (nice guy by the way) were said 4 to 6 years ago during a time in MY life when everything was upside down.  I was trying to sort out everything and find some direction in my life. I believe that the people we meet and the time that we meet them in is not a coincidence.  I met - we will call him Michael - (as you call him "the blond lover", it was not a wedding picture, it was taken the night of the porn awards.  By the way he is one of the reasons I prefer Latin men. LOL) at a time in my life when I needed someone to push me (show me a different way) out of the rut I was in. After dealing with his crystal addiction for 3½ years and screwing around, I was able to learn a great deal about myself.  I realized that I deserved better in life through the experience and also learned self reliance in the process as well as learning a lot about life itself. So in a way he did save me from myself, I learned as I call it, learning through his experiences in his life and watching his mistakes that he was making at the time. No, I don’t use the stuff myself, it bores the hell out of me. I just don’t understand busting your ass in the gym all day and then getting fucked up out of your mind on the weekends. (time to grow up for those of you who think you need it to fit in, you deserve so much more out of life than a drug can offer you, maybe you need a better quality of friends.)

Now for Steven Marks, part of the reason I sounded the way that I did was the fact that he lied about half of the things he was saying. I felt that he was trying to justify a lot of things that were going on in his life at the time. One lie was the amount of money that he was pulling in at the time.  He did not make near the amount he claimed and I felt he was trying to glorify it for himself to feel better. As far as your comment about the strong being the only ones who should be in porn, I say get a grip. This is not a personal attack on you, but unless you have been through it yourself you have no basis of knowledge to speak of or to base your opinion on. And I don’t care who you might know in the business. It’s still all hearsay.

Now in closing I’ll tell you that I have no regrets or remorse about anything I have done in my life time. Nor will I in the future. There is no room for regrets, everything that is done in one's life is done for the specific reason of learning. Porn helped me (and I’m only speaking only for myself as usual) learn so much, and it catapulted me to a maturity level I had no idea existed within me. I've written this to you before in email, but I'd like to say it again in this forum. I'd like to voice a gripe against the gay video companies. Most of them don't seem to care a great deal about the European market... over here, we have a different video format, PAL. Most US companies don't sell videos in that format (well, some of the smaller companies do). So we are forced to turn to European distributors who overcharge, have limited and outdated stock, and often don't deliver. Simply put, I have been unable to get more than 3 of your videos so far; a few more titles were available, but the prices are simply too steep. I sincerely hope that whichever company you will work for in the future will make your videos available to us over here, preferably by allowing us to buy direct, in PAL format. Zak, once again, I admire you not only in your work but as a person.

I suggest that you post your question to the ASK JOHN RUTHERFORD thread at ATKOL. John is the head of Falcon Studios and would have a better understanding of the format of the videos he produces, and could tell you why they don’t bother putting them in different formats. I saw you in a video and I don't know the name of it and so can't find it. However, a friend of mine sent me the URL for the official Zak Spears worship site. That's how I discovered the ATKOL site (I have not posted here before). I really enjoyed that first video and my friend and I rented some others. I know from the filmography that you have quite a large body of work, but I have only seen a few of your videos available here in Toronto. I love Jules Verne, Robert Louis Stevenson, A. A. Milne, Ian Fleming, and I can’t get enough of Anne Rice. Her writings are more erotic than any porn I’ve read or seen. Quiet time - playing with my dogs, scuba diving, working on my truck, going to amusement parks (Disneyland) and without getting sappy if I’m dating, just lying around the house together or going for a long drive down the coast.
